VUWSIG is a friendly group for all interested in all facets of Scottish life – history, culture, etc. Meetings are held monthly in central Wellington (no university or Scottish connections required).
Prompted by the Wellington Scottish Festival in 1994, the Victoria University of Wellington Scottish Interest Group (VUWSIG) was formed at the end of that year.
VUWSIG’s aims are:
To provide an opportunity for people to be more aware of and knowledgeable about Scotland’s heritage and to share it
To promote Scottish culture today and thus enrich that of New Zealand
To encourage and establish closer links with Scotland and with Scottish groups in New Zealand and worldwide.
Patron: Professor Mark Hickford, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dean of the Law Faculty, VUW.
Although based in Victoria University, no connection with it, or any other tertiary institution, is required to be a member – an interest in things Scottish is the only prerequisite.
